On Thursday, Meyers participated in the Astros’ workout at Minute Maid Park and was able to complete his normal routine including hitting, playing catch and uncorking a couple relay throws. While manager Dusty Baker said Meyers’ status for the series is still uncertain, Meyers said he felt good and hoped to play Friday in Game 1 at Minute Maid Park.
“That’s the goal, to try and help the team,” Meyers said. “I feel good. I think it’s just gonna come down to a lot of different variables that we all don’t know. … It’s not my decision. Whatever’s best for the team.”
Meyers said he did not require any imaging on his shoulder. He described feeling soreness and tightness after he tried to rob Sheets’ homer.
“As the play was going on I saw it carry, but as it was going, the wind kind of pushed it off track from where I thought it would be,” he said. “I just tried to jump up and catch the ball and my left shoulder kind of got caught between my body and the wall. So just banged it a little bit.”
After being attended to by trainers on the warning track in center field, Meyers tossed a few relay throws to test out his shoulder. He said Astros shortstop Carlos Correa persuaded him to leave the game.aside">
“I was trying to figure out if I could throw right there and he could see — everyone could see — that I was a little sore,” Meyers said. “But he kind of just came to me and said, ‘Look, man, we want to win,’ and me trying to be a hero in that situation wasn’t going to really work. I heard him and I’m all about helping the team win and I knew Chas could get it done.”

Meyers started three of four games in center field for Houston in the ALDS against Chicago. If Meyers cannot play against the Red Sox, McCormick presumably would get the start in center field. Baker said Thursday he would determine Meyers’ availability after speaking with Astros trainers.
“We have a few question marks, but, you know, we've had question marks all year long,” Baker said. “So hopefully, knock on wood, he is good for tomorrow.”
